What is Filban (Flibanserin) 100 mg?
Filban is a medication specifically designed to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder also known as (HSDD) in women who are pre-menopausal. The condition affects nearly 1/3 of adult women in the United States. Using Filban increases the number of satisfying sexual events per month by about one half to one over placebo from a starting point of about two to three.
Classification and Mechanism of Action
There are many mechanisms in place that have a vital role in the sexual response of a woman. Hormones, neurotransmitters, and natural steroids released during sex all have a direct effect. The balance between the serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain need to be in balance in order for arousal to be achieved. By using Filban, specifically designed to enhance arousal, the balance between these systems is improved.
How to take Filban?
Filban is prescribed in a 100 mg tablet, to be taken orally.
Dosage
One 100mg tablet is taken each night, just before bed. If no improvement is shown within eight weeks, the use of Filban should be discontinued. If one dose is missed, a double dose should not be taken.
Missed Dose
If a dose is missed one night, the patient should resume a normal schedule the next night and avoid taking two night’s worth of medication.
Warnings and Precautions
Filban should not be used with alcohol as it increases the risk of hypotension and syncope. Before a doctor prescribes this medication, they should assess a patient’s past and current alcohol use to establish the likelihood of a patient abstaining from alcohol. They should also look into a patient’s pertinent medical and social history.

When should Filban not be used?
If a person is a heavy drinker or on the certain medications, they should not take Filban. This medication is designed to help with arousal, but only in those who have HSDD. It is not a substitute for counseling and should not be taken without a diagnosis.
How long should you take Filban?
Although this medication can be stopped at any point, it is recommended that the woman tries this medication for eight to twelve weeks before determining if it works for them. Some women experience results soon after they first use of Filban, and most keep their libido long after the medication is stopped.
