Stablon general information

What is Stablon used for?

Stablon tablets 12.5mg are used to treat major depression and reduce major depressive episodes ranging from mild to severe. Stablon 12.5 helps relieve symptoms of depressive illness, including anxiety, loss of interest in usual activities, disturbed sleep, change in appetite, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, difficulty thinking or concentrating, and recurrent thoughts of suicide. Stablon tablets 12.5mg are also used as maintenance treatment for depression to prevent relapse or recurrence of depressive episodes.

How does Stablon work?

Stablon tablets 12.5mg contain tianeptine, an antidepressant belonging to the class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake enhancers (SSRE). Tianeptine is structurally similar to tricyclic antidepressants but has a different mechanism of action, which also differs from the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). One of the major causes of depression is thought to be a lack of serotonin, a neurotransmitter or brain chemical that allows nerve cells to communicate, which controls many body activities, including regulating mood. Increasing serotonin is the target mechanism of most antidepressants. However, this does not appear to be the mechanism by which tianeptine exerts its antidepressive action. In contrast to the SSRI antidepressants that work by blocking the reuptake of serotonin from the synapse (gap between nerve cells across which chemical messages are sent) to make more serotonin available for nerve cell communication and increases stimulation of nerve p
athways that control mood, tianeptine in Stablon tablets 12.5mg increases the rate of serotonin reuptake by neurones. It is thought that the antidepressive action of tianeptine in Stablon tablets 12.5mg may be due to its effects on restoring neuronal neuroplasticity, which is the way nerve cells adapt to various stimuli and if impaired, areas of the brain associated with mood may change structurally. Thereby, tianeptine in Stablon tablets 12.5mg may reduce damage to the brain caused by stressful stimuli. Also tianeptine in Stablon tablets 12.5mg is thought to influence other neurotransmitter pathways that may affect mood, such as transmission of glutamate, which is the major excitatory neurotransmitter and is also involved in neurone plasticity. The actions of Stablon tablets 12.5mg contribute to relieving symptoms of depression and preventing depressive episodes.
